Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs ground beef 80/20 ratio for juiciness
  • 10-12 soft burger buns
  • 10-12 slices of American cheese
  • 10-12 crispy onion rings
  • 10-12 thick-cut bacon slices
  • 1 1/2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Bourbon Prime burger seasoning or your favorite burger rub
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard for added tanginess, optional
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika for a smoky depth of flavor, optional

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Patties
  1. Begin by taking that beautiful ground beef. In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef with your favorite burger rub. Don't be shy! Season generously. For added depth, incorporate smoked paprika as well. This is where you set the foundation for a flavorful burger.
Form the seasoned beef into patties. Aim for a thickness of around half an inch. They’ll shrink while cooking, so keep them a tad thicker than you think you'll want. This recipe usually yields about 10-12 patties depending on their size.
Step 2: Cook the Bacon
  1. While the patties rest, get your bacon sizzling. I prefer to fry bacon until it reaches a crispy texture. Once cooked, let the bacon drain on paper towels. They’ll soon add that delightful crunch to our burger!
Step 3: Grill the Patties
  1. Next up: the grill. Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat. If you're outdoor grilling, that’s even better! Grill those patties for around 4-5 minutes on each side. You’re aiming for a luscious medium-rare since we’ll top them off with cheese shortly.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
  1. Once you flip the patties, layer a slice of American cheese on each one. Close the grill lid to allow the cheese to melt beautifully. That gooey wonder is what we all crave!
Step 5: Toast the Buns
  1. While the cheese is melting, it's time to toast those buns! Simply place them on the grill or in a hot skillet, cut-side down. You want a lovely golden-brown finish. This step adds a satisfying crunch that holds up against the juicy patty.
Step 6: Assemble the Burger
  1. Now for the fun part—assemble it! Start with the bottom bun, then the juicy patty with melted cheese. Add two pieces of crispy bacon for that crunch. Slather a generous amount of BBQ sauce on top, and finish with a pile of crispy onion rings. Cap it off with the top bun, and voilà!

Notes

  • Ground Beef: The ratio of fat to lean makes all the difference. The 80/20 blend ensures a juicy burger. You can opt for a leaner blend, but it may lack that indulgent taste.
  • American Cheese: This melty cheese is a classic choice. It creates that unified cheesiness we all love.
  • Bacon: Thick-cut bacon gives you that satisfying bite, and it's perfect for stacking on burgers.
  • BBQ Sauce: Choose a sauce you enjoy, as this will add your personal touch to the dish. Sweet, tangy, or smokey—pick your favorite!
  • Onion Rings: You can either use store-bought or homemade. They elevate the texture and add a fantastic crunch.
  • Burger Rub: You can experiment with different spice mixes. From spicy to herbaceous, there's a rub for everyone.
