Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
- Start by preheating your oven to 200ºC (400ºF). Meanwhile, grab a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper to help prevent sticking. This step is crucial for ensuring your wreath bakes evenly and releases easily.
Step 2: Roll Out the Pastry
- Once your oven is preheating, roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 5mm thick. You want it thin enough to get crispy but thick enough to hold its shape. With a sharp knife, cut out a large circle from your pastry. It should be big enough to house your cheese and fillings.
Step 3: Prepare the Base
- Position your pastry carefully on the lined baking sheet. Using a medium-sized bowl, outline a smaller circle in the center with a knife. This guide will help you know where to make your cuts later.
Step 4: Cut the Center Star
- Next, make four evenly spaced cuts from the outer edge of this center circle towards the edge of the circle you’ve marked. Make sure not to cut all the way through—this will create the “petals” of your wreath where you’ll fold the pastry over the filling.
Step 5: Fill with Flavor
- Spread that beautiful cranberry sauce around the center of your star shape. Be generous but ensure it doesn’t ooze out too much. Place the sliced Brie right over the cranberry sauce. Sprinkle the coarsely chopped pistachios on top for that delightful crunch. You can drizzle some honey for added flavor at this stage.
Step 6: Form Your Wreath
- Now comes the fun part! Take one point of your inner star and fold it over the filling, tucking it in slightly. Then, do the same with the outer edge of the pastry. Join both, pressing them together to secure the filling inside. Continue this process around the entire wreath until it’s all wrapped up.
Step 7: Add a Golden Brush
- With your pastry assembled, take that beaten egg and use a pastry brush to gently coat the entire wreath. This step will give your dish a beautiful golden color as it bakes and a lovely sheen.
Step 8: Bake and Enjoy
- Place your creation in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up. Once done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Finally, slice it and serve it warm!
Notes
- Use high-quality Brie for the best flavor; it truly makes a difference.
- Feel free to customize the nuts; walnuts or pecans work great too!
- The wreath is best enjoyed fresh, but if you need to prepare it ahead of time, assemble it but don’t bake until you’re ready to serve.
- Experiment with different fillings; dried fruits, different jams, or herbs can give you a unique spin.
- Always check the pastry as it bakes to avoid over-browning—every oven is different!
