Best Stovetop Popcorn - Simple Easy Meals

Popcorn and I go way back. Growing up, my family and I would have movie nights every Saturday. Each week brought a new adventure on screen, while the aroma of popcorn filled the air.
Over the years, I experimented with stovetop cooking, discovering techniques and flavors that elevate this simple snack. Who knew seasoning could turn basic popcorn into a culinary treat?
With that in mind, let me guide you through crafting the best stovetop popcorn that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoons of cold-pressed olive oil or coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of popping corn kernels, divided
  • A pinch of sea salt, to taste

Method

Step 1: Prepare Your Equipment
  1. You’ll need a heavy-bottomed pot with a lid. This helps distribute heat evenly. A glass lid is ideal for monitoring the popping process.
Step 2: Heat the Oil
  1. Add 2 tablespoons of your chosen oil into the pot over medium heat. Wait for about 2 minutes. To check if it’s ready, toss in a couple of kernels. When they pop, you’re good to go.
Step 3: Combine Kernels and Spices
  1. Next, add ½ cup of popcorn kernels to the hot oil. Immediately sprinkle that ½ teaspoon of smoked paprika over the kernels. Here’s where the magic begins.
Step 4: Cover and Shake
  1. Cover the pot with the lid. Trust me on this one: you want to gently shake it. This helps prevent burning and allows even popping. Be patient; soon, you’ll hear a delightful popping symphony.
Step 5: The Big Reveal
  1. Once the popping starts to slow down and there are about 2 seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat. Carefully lift the lid. Watch out for the last few kernels that may still pop!
Step 6: Season and Toss
  1. Finally, transfer the popcorn into a large bowl. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast and salt to taste. Toss everything together and enjoy!

Notes

  • Fresh Kernels: Always use fresh popcorn kernels. They yield a better pop and flavor.
  • Temperature Matters: Too high of a temperature can burn your popcorn. Medium heat is your friend.
  • Experiment: Feel free to try different spices. Garlic powder and ranch seasoning can create fun flavors.
  • Storing: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Serving Size: A half-cup of kernels typically makes about 10-12 cups of popped popcorn. Perfect for sharing (or not!).
