Here are some crazy and not so crazy helpful tips for cleaning your kitchen and other rooms of your house.

Items which help remove stains:

Glass cleaner

Club Soda

Shaving Cream

Baking Soda

How to use them:

  • Apply any of the above to the stained area.  Rub it in and wait for a few minutes before sponging it off thoroughly.  If the stain is still present, combine two tablespoons of detergent, four tablespoons of white distilled vinegar and one quart of warm water.  Work into stain and blot, blot blot until all the liquid is gone.

  • Combine two cups of cornmeal and one cup of borax for an excellent carpet cleaner and deodorizer.  Sprinkle on and leave for an hour before vacuuming.
  • Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the carpet before vacuuming.  It will remove the odor from your carpet and may help it look brighter.

Static and Shock Remover:

Mix one part liquid fabric softener with five parts water in a spray bottle.  Mist the carpet lightly avoiding over wetting.  Let dry and the shock and awe that was walking on your carpet is gone!  Great for those of us who have pets at home and get hair stuck to us everywhere.  Yeah we can keep our pets and stay safe from shock at the same time.

Going Up!

Here’s some helpful info on cleaning and mending your walls.

Wall cleaner:

  • Combine one half cup of ammonia, one quarter cup of white vinegar, one fourth cup of washing soda and one gallon of warm water.  Spray and use as needed.
From the bottom on up:
  • Always begin washing walls at the bottom instead of the top and wash upwards.  If streaks of dirty water are allowed to flow down the wall, then this may make oiled areas harder to clean.
To remove everyday smudges:
  • Erase light marks by using a pencil eraser, available everywhere.
  • Rub soiled area with chunks of fresh bread.
Removing grease spots:
  • Baking soda sprinkled over the stain and left to sit for a few minutes then adding water will take the grease spot away.
  • Sprinkle white talcum powder on a powder puff.  Rub the puff over the spot until grease disappears.
